About BTGC
2019 is an important new year for us.
Kajang Gospel Centre (KGC) started as an assembly in Kajang about 37 years ago. Since then, the church has been growing by the grace of God. As of 2019, KGC occupies three storeys of a shoplot in Taman Sri Langat, Kajang.
In 1999, a Sunday School was started in Taman Jasmin and the rented premise was called Cornerstone because it was a first floor corner lot. In time, we needed to start the Teens work as well because some of the children were growing older. We acquired a shoplot in Bandar Teknologi, a large neighbourhood located in Semenyih, just five to ten minutes from the heart of Kajang town, and moved the Cornerstone Sunday School and Teens to the new premise.
In the year 2003, we found ourselves completely filling out the space in our hall in KGC. At the same time, we also felt the Lord calling us to start another assembly in Bandar Teknologi, where we already had some outreach going on. The decision was made that those of us who either stayed nearby Bandar Teknologi, or was involved in the work there would begin meeting together to start this new assembly, called Bandar Teknologi Gospel Centre (BTGC). In January 2004, the first breaking of bread meeting was held.Although we had separate meetings such as the breaking of bread meeting, prayer meetings and Bible study, we were still doing some things together; such as having a common oversight, sharing finances, people from one assembly could be serving in the other assembly, and having combined Family Camps. We even had a combined Facebook page. The Lord has blessed the work in both assemblies and we grew in our respective locations. We loved our fellowship and cooperation with each other.
However, we knew at the back of our minds that we are not two properly, separate, autonomous assemblies. From what we understood in the Scriptures, each local assembly should be independent of each other in terms of oversight, administration, finance, and service. While this does not exclude cooperation and interaction between assemblies, being autonomous allows each assembly to be fully and only accountable to the Lord Jesus as the Head of the church. We felt that the pattern in which KGC and BTGC were meeting was not in full obedience to the pattern found in the Bible.
Fourteen years later in Dec 2017, the elders, after much prayer, made a decision to embark on a one-year 'project' to move both assemblies to full autonomy. This involved making difficult decisions, much prayer and waiting, and a lot of planning. Thankfully, with the Lord's help and guidance, we managed to sort out the details. We think it is good to mention that, to the glory of God, and to the gladness of the saints, the usually-thorny issue of splitting the finances and matters of property were settled in much brotherly love and unity of mind. We are so thankful for the very smooth transition!
Perhaps the bittersweet part of it all is that we would now have less meetings where believers from both assemblies can meet each other. We will surely miss the fellowship and ministration of gifts by believers from the other assembly. Nevertheless, we will still be in contact with each other as the Lord enables, and we believe the Lord will equip and raise others within each assembly to fill the gaps left by those who will be returning to their respective assemblies to serve.
By the end of 2018, everything was in place and our last combined meeting as “Kajang and Bandar Teknologi Gospel Centre” was the Watch Night Service on New Year's Eve.
The year 2019 brings us to a new era of assembly testimony in Kajang. KGC and BTGC can now make decisions and follow the Lord independently of each other.
We believe this will enable, not cripple, each assembly to do more for the Lord. We hope to complement, not compete with, each other in the Lord's work here in Kajang. We will uphold, not withhold; each assembly in prayer to be faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ. By the grace of God, may the name of the Lord be glorified in Kajang through Kajang Gospel Centre and Bandar Teknologi Gospel Centre.
